The Cry of the Tree

The Cry of the Tree

These 10 images were created at a time of the Covid 19 Pandemic which has been responsible for universal feelings of loss. In particular, for me, thoughts of the death of my mother have been resurrected.

The tragic beauty of a severed old tree has caught my imagination and now becomes a focal point for an expression of my inner world. The photographs were taken around the foot of the tree, focussing on its lined and splayed roots which mirror human ageing and suffering and represent symbolically the ending of life. Further, blending them with photographs of  scattered flowers creates images which represent human feelings of loss, pain and grief. The result is an ethereal impression of something beyond reality so transforming sadness.
